Nebraska's grasslands lost more than 419,000 tons of forage production in 2019 due to woody encroachment by species like eastern redcedar. The same year, 19 out of 25 counties in the Sandhills were on a trajectory of decreasing forage production due to woody encroachment.
Dillon Fogarty will present new management strategies for reducing cedar encroachment, detailed in a new management guide. Management strategies outlined in the guide are estimated to save between $25-500 per acre compared to past guidance in Nebraska.
Invite your neighbors: Partnerships across property lines can increase the cost-effectiveness of management and reduce future management needed
Workshop hosts are UNL Extension and Nebraska Cattlemen
Funding is provided by the Rainwater Basin Joint Venture, the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, and The Nebraska Environmental Trust.
